The King of reds- Cabernet Sauvignon

When wine drinkers in California wanted to drink a red wine, they just asked for a Cabernet Sauvignon.  Cabernet Sauvignon dominates most restaurant wine lists and it is the highest sold red wine in America.  The grape received its most attention as the principal grape of the great 1st growth chateaus in Bordeaux.  In the past century it has made its way into almost every wine growing country in the world.  It’s thick skin, firm tannins and fragrant aromatics has made it the obvious choice for many winemaker’s benchmark wines.

Cabernet Sauvignon is known as the king of reds because of its structural elements.  It is a grape that can grow in hot climates, shows intense aromas, has a big mouth-feel and its intense tannins give it a backbone to stand up next to the biggest meats.  Every king needs to reign for a long period, and Cabernet Sauvignon can age for many years.

The seminar focuses on a brief history of the grape and some of the best examples of Cabernet Sauvignon around the world.  It bears the name “king of reds”, and we will discover why.
